5 Amazing Halloween Costume Ideas for SeniorsOctober 22, 2018
Halloween is such a fun time for building community, celebrating, and most of all: having fun!
For many, Halloween reminds us of some of our happiest memories from childhood. We remember spending hours finding the perfect costume for school, spending a night with friends and family trick-or-treating, or attending fun costume parties where the best outfit won an amazing prize. What’s not to love about friendship, delicious candy, and fun-loving parties?
Here at Blue Harbor Senior Living, our communities like to keep the Halloween tradition alive. Whether it’s a costume contest, a trick-or-treating event, a Halloween craft session, or a Halloween party, each community plans a wide assortment of fun Halloween-themed activities for residents to enjoy!
What do all these Halloween-themed events have in common? Costumes! If you haven’t figured out what you want to be for Halloween this year, get inspired by these amazing Halloween costume ideas for seniors.
#1 Favorite Celebrity
Who’s your favorite celebrity? Whether it’s an actor, actress, musician, or dancer, we all have celebrities we’ve looked up to over the years. Whether you’ve always been an Elvis fan or have been listening to Madonna since the ‘80s, celebrity-themed costumes are always a fun way to express your passions and interests. Plus, they serve as a great conversation starter!
#2 Favorite Fruit or Veggie
This one is silly, simple, and fun! Do you love pineapples? Or, maybe your favorite fruit is banana? Whatever it may be, dressing up as your favorite fruit or vegetable is a sure way to have fun and put a smile on your neighbor’s face. Check out this Sheldon Park Senior Living resident’s banana costume from last year!
#3 Favorite Animal
Have you always loved cats or dogs? Or, maybe your favorite animal is a cheetah. Whatever it is, dressing up as an animal is a fun and accessible way to join in the costume fun. Plus, it can be relatively simple, so doesn’t require a ton of planning. Get those cat ears and whiskers ready!
#4 Favorite Era
Love the flower-child look from the ‘60s or ‘70s? Or, maybe you’ve always loved the ‘20s and want to dress up as a flapper, like from the Great Gatsby. Perhaps you’re a history buff and want to take it a step further, replicating Medieval garb. Whatever you choose, picking a favorite era is the perfect way to get inspired for a fun and creative costume.
#5 Classic Costumes
Sometimes, it’s all about the classics. Think of all things Halloween-themed, from ghosts to pumpkins to witches to goblins. We love this example of a witch-themed costume from one of our beautiful residents at Sheldon Park. Fun!
One of the best parts of Halloween is the amazing memories. A great way to capture the memories is through pictures, so be sure to take tons of pictures! Follow our Blue Harbor Senior Living corporate Facebook account for costume updates from our residents, in addition to our individual community accounts. And most importantly: have fun!
