5 Tips for Staying Healthy this Holiday Season
December 10, 2020Happy holiday season, all! We hope everyone is staying healthy and well. The holidays are a beautiful time of year, but with the colder weather settling in (and some extra holiday stress!), we may be more prone to catching the cold or flu.
In this holiday edition of the True Blue blog, let’s take a look at different ways to stay healthy this holiday season!
#1 Get Lots of Sleep
Rest and relaxation are essential for a healthy immune system. Be sure to get lots of sleep each night. Some people need more sleep than others, but many recommend aiming for 8 hours a night. Feeling a little antsy at night? Try getting a little extra exercise during the day and limit screen time at night (try winding down with your favorite book instead!).
#2 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
We cannot emphasize this enough! Staying well hydrated helps to eliminate toxins and inflammation in the body. Stay hydrated throughout the day, drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you want to add a little variety, try hot water with lemon; lemon is a great way to get extra Vitamin C!
#3 Stay Active
We know that during the winter months (and during quarantine!), getting exercise can be challenging. However, there are lots of fun and convenient at-home ways to get in a little extra movement. Try chair aerobics, a little morning stretching, or dancing to one of your favorite songs. Take a look at these virtual exercise ideas!
#4 Flu Shot!
Be sure you’ve gotten your flu shot this year. Flu shots are widely accessible and if you live in one of our communities, make sure to ask our team so we can ensure you get your flu shot–we are here to help.
#5 Stock Up on Vitamin C!
There are lots of different supplements that can help boost immunity, and Vitamin C is one of them! Other foods and supplements that can help build immunity include:
- Ginger
- Elderberry
- Vitamin D!
