A Passion for ArtDecember 21, 2016 | Barkley Place
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." -Edgar Degas
For many, art is a means of expression and a way to find beauty in the world around us. Both creating and looking at artwork is a fun way to spend a leisurely day, especially for seniors. When we found out that one of our residents had a favorite artist in town, we decided to turn this event into a WOW! Moment.
Florence Kolodziej, who's been a resident at Barkley Place for two years, loves to do artwork and go to art museums. Our Activities Assistant Kathleen knew that Florence had a favorite local artist here in Fort Myers, who also happened to have an upcoming exhibit opening close to Barkley Place, so Kathleen took Florence to the exhibit! Florence was so happy to be able to attend the exhibit and see some of her favorite artwork. She enjoyed it so much that she decided she wanted to turn this trip to the local art museums into a monthly outing. We thought that was a great idea!
As you can tell by the photos, Florence had so much fun observing and admiring the beautiful creative works of her favorite artist. As more exhibits come through Fort Myers and the surrounding area, we would love to be able to take Florence and a larger group of residents to these wonderful exhibits. We think the activity would be so enriching for all of the residents, bringing big smiles to their faces just like it did for Florence and Kathleen! Plus, it may be great creative inspiration for their art classes here at Barkley Place!
