Admiring The Redwoods
September 26, 2017 | Sunshine VillaSunshine Villa resident Liz lived in various national parks throughout her life. She and her husband helped forest rangers and crews supervise and maintain the parks for many years. Liz's participation in preserving national parks gave her a deep interest and passion for the environment.
Her appreciation of nature gave the staff the inspiration for her WOW! Moment. The Tailored Preferences Coordinator Antonia arranged a trip to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, a preserved forest area in the watershed of the San Lorenzo River. The 40-acre grove of towering old-growth redwood trees draws travelers from around the world. Antonia thought this would be the perfect place for Liz to enjoy the outdoors and reminisce on her involvement in environmental preservation.
Liz set off with an enthusiastic attitude and ready to explore. With the sun peaking from the trees, Liz and Antonia walked the mile trail and stopped along the way to enjoy the beauty around us. Liz admired the skyscraping redwoods and took in the fresh air. Along the way, Liz stopped to look at the signs that explained the park's history, and read informative brochures about the birds and plants native to the park. Liz noted how much she loves the peacefulness of the redwood landscape. After arriving back to Sunshine Villa, Liz mentioned that she learned a great deal of new information while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Seeing Liz navigate through the tall trees and reminisce about her environmental involvement was a very special WOW! Moment.
