Blue Harbor Chef Cook Off!August 01, 2018
Here at Blue Harbor Senior Living, we take our dining seriously. We want residents to enjoy flexible, nourishing, and varied menu options. More than anything, we want residents to absolutely love their dining experience. That’s why we train our staff to prepare only the best.
What’s one way that we inspire our chefs to go above and beyond? Through dining services trainings and chef cook-offs! It’s a great way for everyone to meet each other and be inspired by each other’s skill and creativity. We’ve held two Chef Competitions this year, one for our Eastern Region Chefs and one for our Western Region Chefs. They’ve both been an absolute blast!
Eastern Region Chef Training and Cook-Off
Most recently, chefs from our communities on the East Coast joined together at Arbour Square at West Chester in West Chester, PA. The communities involved were Pine Rock Manor, Kirkwood Corners, The Pines at Newmarket, The Residence at Glen Riddle, The Village at Southlake, The Gardens, Barkley Place, Raintree Terrace, Maple Court, and Arbour Square at West Chester. What an incredible crew! The training lasted three days. The first day was spent as a Chef Competition, which was a great way for chefs to showcase their skills. It was also a great way to get inspired by other Blue Harbor Chefs! The inspiration came in handy, as the next two days were spent doing meal planning, deciding which amazing new recipes to bring to our residents.
How’d the Blue Harbor Chef Cook-Off get kicked off? The Chefs were broken up into three teams. Each team was given a protein that they needed to work into an entrée, a salad, and a sandwich. The teams were Team Pig (Pork), Team Chicken, and Team Shrimp. The Chefs started cooking in the morning with the goal of presenting their three items for lunch. The teams were judged on plating and taste. The home office and regional team members along with the residents of Arbour Square at West Chester served as judges. Each judge voted for their favorite team. Team Pig won among the home office and regional teams. Team Shrimp won among the residents. Way to go, all!
