Blueberry BakerJanuary 04, 2017 | Waterview Court
Whether you're the baker or are just enjoying some homemade baked goods, there's nothing quite like the joy and comfort that baking brings.
One of our residents had been a bit shy about participating in activities that she once loved, but expressed a passion for baking. She told us how much she used to love baking for her husband and children. She would often have fresh homemade baked goods and desserts prepared for family dinners every evening. Recently, she had started showing interest in baking again, but feared she couldn't follow a recipe anymore and that she had lost the skills she once had.
With a little encouragement and several invitations, our resident finally attended and fully participated in one of our baking activities! We took a group of residents to a local pick-your-own blueberry farm. The next day, we held a baking class using recipes that incorporated all of the fresh fruit we had picked. We were so happy that our resident had decided to join us and try her hand at baking once more!
She was skeptical of her abilities at first, but once she got started, she quickly picked up her skills again. It was as if she had been baking every day! She was able to make the recipe independently with little to no assistance from our senior care staff. We could tell she was satisfied with the perfect blueberry crumb bars that came out of the oven, so much so that she decided to share them with the other residents in the dining room. We hope our resident continues baking at Waterview Court not only for her own enjoyment, but also so we can sample all of her tasty treats! Such a beautiful WOW! Moment!
