Bonjour, Mon Amour! Robert’s Return to FranceOctober 08, 2018
As a part of our True Blue approach, we want to get to know each and every one of our residents. The better we get to know our residents, the more special moments we’re able to create!
Each of our communities creates special WOW! Moments for our residents, helping them to relive their best memories and realize their lifelong dreams. Read on to learn all about Lionwood resident Robert’s return to France!
A Lifelong Love of France
Robert’s love of France developed while he was employed for 13 years at the Joslin Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska as the head of the Education Department. It was there that he developed an interest in French impressionist paintings and the French language.
After working at the Joslin Art Museum, Robert joined the military and was sent to Europe to be stationed in Germany for 3 years. While he was there, he visited France 12 times to view art. Plus, he fell in love with the French language!
After the military, Robert went on to get a degree in French which allowed him to get a job as a French Teacher at Sager High School in Sager, California. He taught there for 23 years. Robert later taught French at Langston University. Robert’s studies also included the University of Paris as well as post graduate work at the University of Aix-en-Provence.
The Time of His Life
Robert has been to France a total of 18 times and he says that the time he spent living in Paris was the happiest and most memorable time of his life. So, what’d the Lionwood True Blue team do to honor his lifelong love of France? We planned a day for Robert to enjoy his love of France, featuring an all-day Paris-themed adventure where Robert was the star attraction!
Robert’s Special Day
In the morning, Robert was presented with a passport that gave him the details of what was to come. He was so excited!
He started the day teaching French Language Lessons to the residents. He then assisted with the French Pastry Making Class, which was followed by his presentation on Wine Tasting. For his Wine Tasting presentation, Robert had picked out all of the wines for residents to try. He picked them out from our local Northpark Wine & Spirits store that carries an amazing selection of French wines.
The Lionwood staff helped put together a complete presentation of the wine growing regions in France along with Wine Tasting Notes about the wines he selected.
A Day He’ll Never Forget
Robert truly got to experience all of the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of his favorite destination in the world. Plus, the residents were so happy to be along for the delicious ride! Everyone just had the most amazing day; Robert never stopped smiling! He said that it was the best day he has had in a long time and that he will never forget his adventure in Paris at Lionwood!
