Carl Hits The JackpotSeptember 11, 2017 | Lionwood
Carl Held always had a deep desire to go to Las Vegas. For decades, he dreamed of going to the desert, gambling, and experiencing all the exciting nightlife that The Strip had to offer. But he had tucked away his wish for a while as his family focused on other priorities. When Carl and his wife wanted to simplify their lifestyles, they decided to move into Lionwood Senior Living. A few years later, Carl lost his wife. Though it was difficult, his friends at Lionwood, including the staff, were there to comfort him and surround him with support. He shared countless laughs with his friends over hot meals and began exploring new hobbies and activities.
As the staff at Lionwood got to know Carl, we learned about his love for all things Las Vegas. Our team decided that if we couldn't take Carl to Las Vegas, we would bring Las Vegas to him. We went all out, spending the entire day in Las Vegas, Lionwood. Vegas day began with a High Roller Breakfast, complete with fresh pastries, mimosas, and Bloody Marys to kick things off. Carl couldn't have been happier as he participated in the day's themed activities, including Viva Las Vegas Aerobics and Vegas Pro Bowlers Tour (which he won). During the Queen of Hearts Blood Pressure Check, Carl smiled as he once again won first -- having the best blood pressure of the day. When the day turned to night, it became time for Casino Night. Carl spent the entire time at the roulette table and ended up walking away with much more than he had anticipated!
At the age of 94, Carl was able to live out his dream. He tells us that he "really hit the jackpot" that day, and every day that he spends at Lionwood Senior Living. The friendships he has developed, along with the memories made that day, stand out as a true WOW! Moment. Our team cannot wait to take him back to Las Vegas again next year!
