Creative Aging: A Love StoryNovember 01, 2018
Each of our True Blue communities offers a wonderful array of different classes. From Tai Chi classes to poetry classes, Blue Harbor residents adore the opportunity for lifelong learning. We love watching residents discover new passions and hobbies!
One of our communities in Oklahoma City, OK, Lionwood Senior Living, recently shared a heartwarming love story with us. Read on to learn how art class led to the love of a lifetime!
Creative Aging is a truly inspiring program. The Creative Aging program places professional teaching artists in various senior centers across Oklahoma City to help teach art classes.
Creative Aging facilitated a wonderful weekly art class at Lionwood Senior Living. During this time, two amazing residents, Marilynne and Tim, bonded through their shared love of art.
Marilynne and Tim
Marilynne’s Artistic Talent
Marilynne absolutely loved the class she took through Creative Aging. She liked working with acrylics the best, but also worked with chalk and watercolor. Her work is so impressive! According to Marilynne, taking the classes truly gives her a sense of accomplishment. Take a look at some of Marylinne’s Creative Aging art projects below:
The work that Marilynne was most proud of was her Statue of Liberty painting. We agree; it’s amazing!
Tim’s Artistic Discovery
Tim, funnily enough, ended up taking the class with a bit of encouragement from a fellow resident! Before the class began, Marilynne knew of Tim, but they weren’t close. However, Marilynne urged him to take the class. According to Marilynne, “He was kind of lassoed into it!” We’re not surprised; the Lionwood team claims that Marilynne inspires creativity among others!
Through Tim’s discovery of his own artistic talents and joys, he fell in love. While Marilynne and Tim only knew each other a little before the class, spending time together making art inspired their love to blossom. In fact, every class, Tim would make something for Marylinne; so sweet!
From Art Class to Romance
One day, Marilynne came to class with a ring on her finger. Tim and Marilynne were engaged! We were so happy for Marilynne and Tim. What a beautiful thing that they were able to find love through art and creative aging. Read the full interview with this happy couple here.
