Engagement through Eversound
June 12, 2019Music. Lively dinner table conversation. Movies. You name it: we use our ears to perceive and engage with so much. However, as we age, many of us begin to experience natural hearing loss. This can lead to a sense of isolation or disengagement.
How can we help aging adults reengage with their senses?
Technology can be hugely helpful! In fact, all of our communities use some type of technology to support our residents. One of our amazing senior communities in Eugene, OR, Sheldon Park Senior Living, recently started incorporating some incredible sound-amplifying technology into their Memory Care programming: Eversound! Let’s take a look . . . or a listen!
Meet Eversound
Eversound is the first wireless headphone system designed for senior living. Referred to as an “engagement amplifier,” it works to remove communication barriers and promote socialization. It’s fantastic for music therapy, individual visits with family and friends, or group events and activities.
Eversound headphones are comfortable, lightweight, and easy to use. They’re built to amplify frequencies that improve voice clarity, and are designed for older adults experiencing natural hearing loss. MedTech Boston details the advantages of the system.
Eversound at Sheldon Park
Last summer, Sheldon Park began incorporating the new Eversound system in Memory Care. They’ve been using the headsets for most of their activities. The community has noticed a huge increase in participation for residents! The system helps to drown out background noise, while allowing everyone to better hear the person leading the activity.
One of the best perks? Seeing more smiles!
A Testimony from our Activities Assistant
The Sheldon Park Activities Assistant for Memory Care, Susan, is a huge fan of these new headsets. She shared her experience thus far!
“The first time we used them in Memory Care, the room was full of pleasantly surprised faces! The response was amazing. During exercise, I had 10 out of 11 residents exercising, as compared to 4-5 of 11,” Susan says. “Residents that do not (typically) participate in trivia are more responsive with the Eversound.”
Sheldon Park sees this working for all types of different community activities. Susan went on to say, “I see this system working with exercise, storytellers, reminiscing, scenic drives, trivia, socials, and much more.”
It’s been incredibly emotional for some residents to reengage with some of their favorite activities. Susan recounts, “Some residents have even shed a tear on being able to hear and interact in activities. There have been more happy faces and interaction than we could have imagined,” she says. “I can’t wait to use them for our Wildlife Safari Trip! I am so excited about the possibilities of our new Eversound system!”
We are so excited, too! To stay on top of all of our community news, be sure to follow us on Facebook and let us know what type of technology has worked best for YOU! Happy listening!
