Food & FamilyDecember 10, 2016 | Sheldon Park
This WOW! Moment created for Sheldon Park resident Glenn filled both our hearts and our bellies. Originally from the Portland, Oregon area, Glenn is a proud U.S. army veteran and is a former forest ranger. When he was younger, he loved bowling and playing baseball. Glenn is well-known around Sheldon Park for always having a big smile on his face. The staff at Sheldon Park wanted to do something special for him in exchange for the energy and enthusiasm he brings to his fellow residents.
When he was asked what he wanted to do for his special afternoon outing, he responded with a very simple request: He wanted to get pan fried oysters, his favorite food. With the help of his granddaughter, Sheldon Park arranged to take him to McGrath's Fish House. When the staff told him where they would be getting oysters Glenn shouted out in excitement. He even noted that McGrath's was one of his favorite restaurants!
On the day of his lunch reservation, Sheldon Park provided transportation to McGrath's. To his surprise, Glenn was greeted at the restaurant by two familiar faces: his granddaughter and great grandson. Glenn was very excited to see his family. After being told to order whatever he wanted, Glenn ordered the Captain's Platter, which consisted of a variety of seafood along with a large side of pan-fried oysters. Lunch was shared over good conversation and plenty of laughter.
Glenn is not able to get around as easily as he used to, so going out and about is always a wonderful treat. Seeing him spend an afternoon filled with good food and great company was a huge success. Glenn's genuine smile flashing over his plate of oysters says it all!
