Heritage Place Walking Club
What is it?
Every Wednesday, rain or shine, members of our Heritage Place Walking Club gather together for a stroll through our beautiful grounds. The club is led by employees in our Activities Department, who encourage members of our community to get active and overcome their personal challenges. They offer advice, support, and inspiration.
How do we keep residents motivated?
We don't walk aimlessly. In fact, each mile we log takes us one mile closer to our goal of walking "across" America! Each resident has a pedometer to keep track of their distance and the miles logged count toward reaching our next U.S. destination. This keeps the club fun and exciting and provides an achievable goal we can work toward.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Bountiful, UT, is a truly beautiful place and our location allows us to enjoy the changing seasons, but we do sometimes run into bad weather. If it's too cold or wet to walk outside on the grounds or explore nearby trails, we walk indoors. Our club's leaders have courses mapped out for both indoor and outdoor walking so that we can meet our walking goals whatever the weather.
Our assisted living residents love the walking club and the increased independence it allows them, and because walking is one of the easiest ways for seniors to meet their exercise goals, it is an excellent way to start off the New Year! Stay strong and healthy in 2017 by taking a 20-30-minute walk around your neighborhood three to five times a week, and experience the benefits many our residents are already enjoying!
