Giving Thanks! Gratitude ExercisesNovember 12, 2020
It’s almost Thanksgiving! As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we’ve got thanks and gratitude on our minds. To begin, we just want to give a huge thanks to all the incredible team members, families, residents, and friends who have been working so hard during this time to be True Blue HEROES. We’ve all come together through thick and through thin to protect and support each other during this challenging time. We love and appreciate you all!
Well, now, look what we just did; we just gave thanks! And that’s what we’re encouraging you to do, too. Read on for tips and insights on how (and why!) to practice gratitude!
Gratitude and Health
Did you know that gratitude can actually improve your health? Not only is it associated with better health, but giving thanks can boost your mood, too. Let’s have at it!
Ways to Express Thanks!
#1 Start a Gratitude Journal
Journaling truly is good for the heart, soul, and the mind (learn all about the benefits of journaling here!). Want a fun challenge? Every day for the next 30 days, try making a list of 10 things you’re grateful for. This can be a great way to start your day or a great exercise at the end of the day. Focusing on the things that lift us up only amplifies our joy, health, and wellbeing!
#2 Send a Thank You Note
Is there someone in your life who has really helped you? Or, are you happy you’ve made a new friend or neighbor? Send someone a thank you note and tell them how much you appreciate them! This can be a great way for you to deepen your friendship and promote greater happiness and wellbeing.
#3 Morning Affirmations & Meditation
We’ve all experienced the “inner critic”—that voice inside our heads that tells us things just aren’t going to work out or we’re somehow doing something wrong. A great way to counter the “inner critic”? Through morning affirmations! Every morning try telling yourself 3 things you adore about yourself. Maybe you’re proud you recently started baking, or maybe you feel a great sense of accomplishment for going on your daily walks. Whatever it may be, give yourself a pat on the back and make a habit of starting your morning with this type of self-appreciation. Self-love goes a long way!
In addition, you can also try daily short meditations. Insight Timer offers a lot of gratitude-focused meditations and some of them are as short as 5 minutes long! Plus, the benefits are pretty significant (see for yourself!).
#4 Random Acts of Kindness
A little kindness goes a long way! And practicing kindness makes us more grateful for all the special people and moments in our lives. Pick flowers for a friend or call a friend to tell them how much you love them. If you have the means, maybe send a donation to a cause you care about. Whatever you express kindness, no matter how small, you’re sure to make a difference in the world. Read all about the Power of Kindness on our blog, along with tips on how to practice random acts of kindness!
We want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for helping make our communities what they are today. We’ve all been through a lot this year, and we couldn’t have done it without the devotion, support, and love showed by each and every member of the True Blue communities.
