How to Start the Search for Senior HousingAugust 15, 2018
Are you or your loved one ready to move into a senior apartment? Wonderful! Finding the right fit can be a process, but we’re here to make that easier. Follow our step-by-step guide for tips on how to start the search for senior housing.
Determine the Right Level of Care
Before you start your search, you’ll want to know what type of senior housing you’re looking for. Are you looking to keep your independence, while receiving a little extra support? Or, are you looking for more intensive care? From retirement communities to assisted living to nursing homes, there are many types of senior living options out there. For more information, review the different types of lifestyles we offer at Blue Harbor*:
*Note that we do not offer lifestyle options for seniors who need intensive, around-the-clock medical care. For seniors who need intensive monitoring, research hospice programs and nursing homes.
Do Your Research
Research your senior living options. Once you’ve determined the appropriate level of care, you’ll want to start your research. Investigate cost, desired geographic location, read reviews, and learn about the available amenities. If you have a pet, for example, you’ll want to be sure your new home is pet-friendly. Family and friends can be great resources, too; they may have past experiences or referrals to share.
Take a Tour!
The best way to determine which senior living community or senior housing situation is right for you is to schedule a tour. When you schedule a tour with a potential community, you get to meet the staff and residents and see what the accommodations are like. When you tour Blue Harbor Senior Living communities, you can even arrange to sit in on a few of the scheduled activities! Blue Harbor communities that offer short-term stays may also allow potential residents to stay on a temporary basis to see if the community is the right fit for them.
