Jerry Goes Skydiving!August 20, 2019
We love to create beautiful WOW! Moments for our residents. Whether a resident has always wanted to fly a plane or has always dreamt of teaching an art class, we find a way to make their dreams a reality.
Our lovely community Sunshine Villa Senior Living in Santa Cruz, CA recently shared a heartwarming story about a certain resident thrill seeker!
Jerry is one of our True Blue thrill seekers who is always up for an adventure. He had recently expressed interest in going skydiving. He said, “I’ve made it 78 years, so why not?” We love that enthusiasm!
So, of course, the True Blue team at Sunshine Villa had to make sure his dreams came true. We invited Jerry’s daughter, Jodi, to jump along with him. Jerry’s son also came with, but he watched from the ground. Jumping out of a plane is not for all of us! Only the true thrill seekers. Take a look at Jerry and Jodi below; just beaming!
Parkinson’s and Vulnerability
On the plane ride up, Jerry and Jodi opened up to their fellow jumpers. Jerry shared about his experience living with Parkinson’s and how it had actually helped him to make the very brave decision to go skydiving.
Jerry’s moment of vulnerability actually led to a very unexpected and meaningful connection! Both Jerry’s tandem instructor and another jumper’s tandem instructor have parents also living with Parkinson’s. They all shared a special moment together above the clouds.
A Jump to Remember
To make the moment a bit more unique, another fellow jumper revealed that she had jumped many times before, but wanted to try something for the first time: skydiving topless! The whole plane roared with accepting laughter. Out they jumped, fully clothed, except for one.
Jerry is such a brave soul, and actually jumped first! Jerry’s kids were so proud, and the whole True Blue family at Sunshine Villa was proud, too. You inspire us, Jerry!
