Lela Turns 100!
February 22, 2019We absolutely love bringing joy to our residents through WOW! Moments. One of the most perfect opportunities for a WOW! Moment? When a resident turns a century old!
Lela Turns 100
Lela P., a resident at Maple Court Senior Living, turned 100 on February 10th! Happy birthday to miss Lela! Before her birthday, the WATE Channel 6 News came out to do a story about the amazing Lela, and she absolutely adored being in the spotlight.
The Interview!
Chelsea, the WATE Channel reporter, interviewed miss Lela about her life. Lela talked about how she loved to swim, and how she swam up until she was 90 years old. She also talked about how much she loved canning and quilting. It was so beautiful to hear about her life!
Lela’s secret to living to be 100 years old? According to her, it’s to take care of yourself and exercise; wonderful, simple, and sage advice!
Before the interview, we got Lela’s hair done. Her nephew and his wife bought her a beautiful dress to wear for her TV spotlight. Chelsea also interviewed them about Lela’s life.
Sharing Memories
Chelsea sat with Lela while she ate dinner. Together, they looked through Lela’s photo albums. Chelsea learned a lot about Lela’s life, and Lela absolutely loved sharing her stories. The True Blue team hadn’t seen Lela light up with joy like that in some time! It was beautiful to see the smiles and childlike wonder on her face. She absolutely loved being on TV!
Live on TV
Chelsea aired the interview on TV in early February. Read the full story and watch the video here: Meet Lela Parker: A soon to be Knoxville centenarian.
What an honor to have one of our residents featured on the local news! Even more, it filled Lela’s heart with so much happiness. We absolutely love creating these special WOW! Moments for residents and can’t wait to continue to create more memories for all the special seniors in our lives.
