Lynne Rekindles her Passion for PaintingJuly 19, 2019
We love creating WOW! Moments for residents! For every member of the True Blue team, it truly warms our hearts and helps us feel like the HEROs we are.
Recently, our lovely community Lionwood Senior Living shared a beautiful WOW! Moment with us. Learn how resident Lynne rekindled her passion for painting!
Lynne’s love of art began when she was a little girl. She started painting her own pictures at age 13 and started selling her paintings professionally in her early 20s.
Lynne became very well-known in Oklahoma, not only for her beautiful paintings but for the work her father did as a local architect. For many years, Lynne traveled around the U.S. doing large art shows.
A Light in the Darkness
Back in 1988 when the Oklahoma City bombing of the federal building occurred, Lynne was able to use her gift to paint pictures for mothers who lost their children in the bombing. Lynne was able to be a shining light for many Oklahomans who were facing the darkest time of their lives. It was important to her to be a blessing for the families who were grieving.
Lynne kindly shared one of these paintings in her Lionwood Art Show, along with letters from the Governor of Oklahoma and the White House thanking her for supporting her fellow Oklahomans during the tragedy. One of her paintings will hang forever in the Governor’s Mansion. How moving!
A Renewed Passion
Lynne recently decided that she wanted to get back to doing art shows and had scheduled herself to be one of the exhibiting artists for a local art show coming up on May 1st. But with her declining health, she decided that it would be too hard on her to sit through long days at the exhibit. So, we thought of a way for her to share her beautiful artwork with the residents right in her home at Lionwood!
An Art Show
The True Blue team at Lionwood scheduled a day for her to put several of her pieces on exhibit in the Activity Room. Invitations went out to residents and they were so excited to learn more about Lynne’s love of art.
Lynne ended up having a great turnout! Residents listened intently as Lynne shared about each piece of artwork on display and her memories of doing traveling art shows across the US.
Lynne was thrilled that so many residents attended the art show and wanted to learn about her love of painting. She said that doing the art show was the best day ever and that she was so thankful for the opportunity to share something that meant so much to her.
A New Purpose
There was so much interest in Lynne’s paintings that Lynne decided she wanted to be an art teacher at Lionwood! She will be teaching regularly scheduled classes to help other residents learn how to paint. Lynne believes that you are never too old to learn something new, and we agree with her (read our blog about how lifelong learning keeps us healthier and happier!).
Lynne cried as she thanked Lionwood for the opportunity to share her love of art with everyone. She said that the entire experience was so amazing, and that she can’t thank the True Blue team enough for helping her rekindle her passion for painting so that she can share it with others once again!
