Naturally Maggie
October 03, 2017 | Pines of NewmarketAt the Pines of Newmarket, we take care of our residents as individuals, be it surprise trips or fun activities. One afternoon, when returning from a field trip, we passed a local nursery. Maggie, one of our kind residents, said that she would love to go there one day. Shortly after, our team reached out to her son for a little more information on Maggie's interests. We soon understood her love of flowers and why she expressed such interest in going to Stratham Hill Nursery -- Maggie Bogle is a born naturalist!
Maggie loves hiking, singing, travel, birds, and flowers. She has a Bachelor's of Science in biology and a Master's of Science in botany. She once was an editor for the botanical journal of Rhodora. In 1961, Maggie and her husband Linn went on a world-wide botanical collecting trip as part of a research project. At her home in Durham, Maggie established a very extensive garden. There, she collected 40-50 varieties of daffodil many varieties of iris day lilies, peonies, primroses, and dahlias. Of course we had to take her to the nursery!
What would appear to be a simple afternoon of walking through a garden center was so much more. We walked and talked about the natural world around us and how important it is to our well-being. It is vital to Maggie's existence and she was so thankful to be surrounded by nature in such a way that it would forever remain a WOW! Moment to her.
