Never Too Old to Begin Again: New Year’s Resolutions for SeniorsJanuary 10, 2018 | Canyon Creek
Happy 2018 everyone! We hope that this will be a wonderful year for Canyon Creek Senior Living residents and their families. Our compassionate team has a feeling 2018 is going to be wonderful.
For many seniors making new year's resolutions may have become a forgotten pastime. However for other seniors making resolutions is a part of their yearly routine. Here at our Utah-based senior living community we truly believe that it's never too late to begin again! In this month's edition of the Canyon Creek Senior Living blog we'll offer inspiration for great new year's resolutions for seniors.
Be More Active
Getting regular low-impact exercise has many benefits for seniors. In addition to improving immunity increasing circulation and helping to maintain a healthy weight, exercise can help boost mood and positive feelings! Plus some studies indicate that regular low-impact exercise improves brain health and memory. Be sure to explore our activity calendar to see the types of exercise classes we offer in our senior activities program.
Try Something New
When we learn a new skill or try something new we are filled with a deeper sense of purpose, enhanced joy, and a childlike curiosity. In our own assisted living community we offer all kinds of opportunities to try something new! Whether you've always wanted to write learn a new language start to paint or learn a new recipe our senior activities program offers many opportunities to try new things.
Assess Your Fall Risk
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults. Reduce clutter, check your stairs for any loose boards or handrailing, and invest in no-slip mats for the bathroom. These actions among other tips listed in our Cleaner Spaces Safer Seniors blog will help to safeguard against falls. Additionally seniors can improve their balance by doing joint-friendly stabilizing exercises such as Tai Chi, yoga, or light weights.
Make New Friends and Keep Laughing
Laughter and friendships make the world a brighter place. As we age social isolation becomes a big risk. However we can combat this risk by actively building community through socializing! In our assisted living community here in Cottonwood Heights, UT we offer all kinds of ways for seniors to meet each other. From happy hours to ice cream socials to movie nights, our residents always have lots of opportunities for fun laughter and new friends!
