New Year’s Resolutions for Seniors: Mind, Body, and SoulJanuary 05, 2016 | Orchard Park
As a caring, nurturing, active senior living community in Clovis, California, Orchard Park designs its programs to meet the physical, mental, and emotional needs of each of our residents. Beyond nutritious food, beautiful living spaces, and the highest quality of physical care, our community also fosters a life-enriching environment where residents can flourish. One way we create a positive environment of active senior living is by providing a variety of daily activities that are proven to enrich the mind, body, and soul.
Exercising the Body
At Orchard Park, we value activities that exercise both the mind and the body, promoting a high level of physical and cognitive fitness. Regular physical activity has a long list of benefits; not only does it keep us happy, but it can protect against injury and illness even as we age.
For physical exercise and movement, we offer a wide variety of classes and options such as yoga and taichi, sittercise, a daily walking program, and more.
Exercising the Mind
In the spirit of our holistic approach, not only do we exercise our bodies but we exercise our brains, too. Studies show that practicing mental exercises such as puzzles and games helps to regulate and even delay memory decline in conditions such as Alzheimer's and dementia.
When planning our monthly calendars, we take care to ensure that each activity we plan promotes the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of our residents. In addition to regular outings and social activities, we also encourage our residents to continue learning. Residents can learn a wide range of skills through our daily creative and educational Discovery Living programs, which include activities such as oil painting, knitting, ceramics, book clubs, and card making. We also have specialized activities like structured brain games specifically designed to meet the needs of our memory care community.
Exercising the Soul
What does it mean to live life to its fullest? To us, it involves having a sense of purpose and community. Engaging, enriching activities and strong social bonds have lasting health and mood-enhancing benefits, protecting against stress and depression. That's why Orchard Park plans frequent social gatherings and networks with the surrounding community through schools, community centers, and churches around Clovis, Fresno, and Madera, California. We are committed to giving residents a deeper sense of connection with others, both in terms of staying connected with our Orchard Park family and the surrounding community at large.
Our residents have all kinds of opportunities to socialize and celebrate, including parties for birthdays and holidays, pet therapy sessions, and frequent outings.
What About You?
