Night Out At The Theater
January 04, 2017 | Waterview Court"Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears, straight to the heart."
For one of our residents, music is one of the only things that makes her "feel alive." She's expressed great interest in music of all kinds and is always the first one to arrive at our musical entertainment events. Once there, she's also the first one to start dancing to the music--or "jiving" as she likes to call it! With an upcoming trip to a local musical in the works, this music-loving resident was concerned about affording tickets to the show, despite really wanting to go. We couldn't let her miss out, so we made it into an unforgettable WOW! Moment. We bought a ticket for the resident -- without letting the resident know! We knew it would be a wonderful surprise.
On the evening of the show, one of our senior care staff members approached the resident at dinner, letting her know that there was an extra ticket. She expressed that she really hoped the resident would join the group going out for the play at the Shreveport Little Theatre. We could tell she was excited about the opportunity and as soon as dinner was over, she went to her room to dress up for the night. Arriving at the theater, she quickly recognized some friends with whom she used to attend similar events in previous years. She had a great time socializing and was able to recreate many fond memories before the play began.
Once we settled in to watch the show, our resident leaned over to one of our Waterview Court staff members and expressed how much it meant to her that she was able to go out for the show. She was so moved by our gesture that tears were flowing by the end of the evening, both from the resident and staff member. We're so happy she was able to participate in an activity that has brought her so much joy throughout her life. It was an unforgettable night for all those who attended!
