Our Favorite Winter Activities for Seniors in Salt Lake City UtahNovember 21, 2016 | Chateau Brickyard
Winter is here, and with it some exciting seasonal and holiday attractions! Chateau Brickyard, an active senior living community in the heart of Salt Lake City, UT, is conveniently located near the best local attractions and sights, enabling our residents to easily participate in the best the community has to offer. Read on to learn about the activities the staff and residents are most looking forward to in the coming months.
Zoo Lights at Hogle Zoo
Zoo Lights is a fun activity for the entire family and is especially senior-friendly. Many of the zoo's regular animals are more active at night, which is perfect for this activity! Enjoy walking the lit pathways (it's even more fun with hologram glass) and stroll through the 135-foot lighted tunnel. While you enjoy the brightly colored lights and festive music, check out the holiday crafts, ice carving displays, food and drink booths (we recommend the hot chocolate), and meet Santa and his reindeer. As always, Chateau Brickyard provides free transportation to local attractions like the zoo to encourage an active and engaged lifestyle for our independent senior living residents. Be sure to check out our activities calendar and newsletter to find out what kinds of activities and outings we have planned this month!
Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure
Our residents love Disney, and many of them have had a lifelong affinity for the Disney movies and their memorable characters. Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure is a wonderful upbeat performance featuring perennial favorites like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, along with more recent newcomers such as Elsa and Anna from Frozen. This is a wonderful experience for the whole family and is something our residents can enjoy with their children and grandchildren.
Festival of Trees
Residents near Millcreek, UT, and in Salt Lake City are looking forward to the annual Festival of Trees, which is jam-packed with holiday magic in just a few short days. Volunteers transform an exhibit hall into a winter wonderland of unique and beautiful Christmas trees, wreaths, centerpieces, and gingerbread houses. Local vendors sell Christmas goods, handmade crafts and quilts, freshly baked cookies and candies, and other items, with all proceeds being donated to children at Primary Children's Hospital.
The Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concert
One of the events we look forward to most each holiday season is the fabulous Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concert. This fantastic performance gathers the world's best tenors, entertainers, and orchestra players together to perform amazing music that we know and love. Many of the residents in our senior retirement community have been attending this concert for years, and love to make it an annual Christmas tradition to put them in the holiday spirit.
There are many other events we are looking forward to this holiday season, including Christmas Street in Sugarhouse, The Nutcracker Ballet, the gorgeous Christmas Displays at the Gallivan Center, and of course, scenic drives around downtown Salt Lake City to see the Christmas lights. These amazing activities and more are highlighted on our monthly activity calendar which can be found here.
