Spirituality & Senior Living Summer Edition: LDS OfferingsSeptember 05, 2017 | Heritage Place
Located just outside of Salt Lake City in Bountiful, Utah, Heritage Place is home to a diverse group of residents, 75-80% of whom are of the LDS faith background. In this Summer installment of our Spirituality & Senior Living series, we'll be highlighting activities and amenities geared toward those of the LDS faith. And remember, all meetings and events we cover here are open to residents of all faiths.
Sunday Services & Spirituality Sessions
Because many of our residents are strongly rooted in their spirituality, we hold LDS services in our chapel located in our basement. We welcome everyone to join us for weekly services every Sunday at 10am.
On Mondays at 10am, we gather for Sunday School sessions to help residents grow in their spirituality. Regardless of backgrounds, we love this weekly get-together to share and learn something new about our different faith traditions.
The Priesthood & Relief Society are separate men's and women's classes designed to take a deeper dive into spirituality. All residents are welcome to take part in their respective sessions to learn more about a spiritual life or to strengthen their faith. We meet Tuesday mornings at 10am.
On Sunday evenings, we welcome local youth to our community to sing hymns. Our residents love capping off the weekend with spiritual songs and a chance to interact with kids and teens from the Bountiful area. For over 17 years, groups have visited us every Sunday to sing for our residents. When they graduate from high school, teens simply pass on responsibility to their younger siblings.
For staff and residents it's inspiring and empowering to see young people choosing to come here every week and serve in this way. The LDS church put together a sweet video of this tradition and shared its impact on everyone involved. You might see some familiar faces in it!
Family Home Evening
Family Home Evening (FHE) is a longstanding tradition for families of the LDS faith. Every Monday evening, families of all shapes and sizes set aside time to do something together, whether that's going out to do service, play games, or simply share stories from their day. The purpose is to bring families together to strengthen bonds.
We host a modified version here at our Utah community, at which we invite our local youth to share in fellowship and bonding with all our residents on Monday evenings. It always involves an activity, and our favorite: treats! This is a great way to bring different generations together and we look forward to it every week.
