The Importance of Social Connection as We AgeApril 10, 2017 | Chateau Brickyard
From our restaurant-style dining room to our fitness center and beauty salon, Chateau Brickyard has everything an active and independent senior could need all in one place. But we also understand the importance of building social connections outside of our Salt Lake City senior living community. Read on to learn more about the positive impact that social connection can have in the lives of seniors.
The Importance of Socialization for Seniors
Between work, school, family errands, and extra-curricular activities, most of us have many opportunities to interact with others. But as we age, we may retire or become less mobile, which can make it more difficult to find these moments to connect with others.
A recent study by Drexel University School of Public Health shows that seniors who live in communities where they feel like they know and trust their neighbors are more likely to be active and mobile. When seniors feel supported by their surrounding community, it is easier for them to feel confident performing everyday errands and tasks.
There are a bounty of benefits to seniors remaining engaged with their local communities. According to our Community Relations Director Hope, "Whether it be volunteering or participating in a local city event, spending time with our Millcreek and Holladay-area neighbors brings our residents so much joy."
Social Connection at Chateau Brickyard
Chateau Brickyard residents have so many opportunities to create social connections in the local community. Our own Activities Director Gigi noted, "Our residents love to find new places in the Salt Lake-area." Here are just a few of Chateau Brickyard seniors' favorite ways to connect:
Lunch Bunch & Dinner Club
The Salt Lake City area has so many amazing dining options to offer. Our residents take advantage of this when they come together several times a month and share a meal out on the town. Some of our residents' favorite restaurant include Porcupine Pub and Grill, Chili's Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Wingers, The Other Place, and China Platter Restaurant.
Here at Chateau Brickyard, we love giving back to the community whenever we can. At least once a month, our residents participate in an activity that benefits a local cause. Some of our favorite past activities include knitting and crocheting hats for cancer patients in partnership with XOXO Hats for Strength and passing out food to homeless community members. Check out our blog about the importance of volunteering for seniors to see what other charities we support.
When it comes to local entertainment, Salt Lake City has no shortage of engaging activities for seniors. With our community located just 10 short minutes from downtown, the possibilities are endless. Some of our residents' favorite nearby activities include the Living Planet Aquarium, Rainbow Casino, the Utah State Fairgrounds, The Leonardo Museum and more!
Activities with Other Senior Living Communities
Chateau Brickyard is a wonderful and tight-knit community, but we also love being able to spend time with the other nearby senior living communities. From lunch, to bingo, to a Wii bowling tournament, we are always looking for fun ways to spend time with our neighbors. On May 17th, our residents will be participating in a friendly "So You Think You Can Dance" style competition with the residents of Golden Living Taylorsville.
From our extensive activity calendar to our scheduled transportation, there's no doubt that Chateau Brickyard is an independent senior living community that allows our residents to thrive socially.
