The Recreational PilotOctober 24, 2017 | Schenley Gardens
The team at Schenley Gardens recently learned that one of our memory care residents, Stew Martinez, used to be a recreational pilot. Once we found out, our team huddled together to make something special happen. We reached out to Tony Foster of the ABC Flying Club, the oldest established flying club in Pennsylvania. With his help we scheduled a private tour. Stew and his friend Nancy Carbonara, another resident at Schenley Gardens, had the chance to see three incredible planes in the Allegheny Airport hangers: a Cessna 177, a Cessna 182, and a Grumman Tiger, all made in the late '70s.
Stew had a blast seeing the planes of his time and telling Nancy all about his experiences flying. His joy was a real WOW! Moment for all of us as we watched him smile from ear-to-ear during the entire tour.
