Tips to Protect Yourself from the CoronavirusApril 14, 2020
In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we are doing everything we can to keep residents and team members safe and healthy. For more information on our Enhanced Resident Protection Protocol, please visit our frequently updated Blue Harbor COVID-19 response page.
In addition to our enhanced cleaning, delivery-only dining, shelter-in-place, social distancing, and visitation restrictions, we can find a multitude of ways to stay healthy. Here are 5 tips (get more from the CDC!).
Wash Hands Often
Wash your hands with soap and water often, especially after you’ve been in public—or have coughed or sneezed. You should wash your hands for 20 seconds: the amount of time it takes to sing happy birthday twice!
6 Feet Away
Practice social distancing and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others. Even when practicing social distancing, there are many fun ways to stay in touch! These include FaceTiming or Zoom with friends and family. You can even watch Netflix ‘together’ using the Netflix Party function, a great Friday night movie idea!
Wear a Mask or Face Cloth
Every time you need to go to a public area or space—even when practicing social distancing—you should wear a cloth face cover or mask. The face cover is not a substitute for social distancing. If you do not have a face cloth, here are some instructions for DIY face cloths.
Prioritize Sleep, Water, and Hydration
Rest well and keep your body in tip-top shape! Drinking enough water (at least 8 cups per day) and sleeping at least 7-8 hours per day, along with proper nutrition, will keep your immune system as strong as possible.
In addition to your normal health regimen, you may want to consider adding immunity strengthening supplements, such as Vitamin C (lemons are amazing; even just a squeeze into your morning tea can go a long way), raw manuka honey, elderberry, or raw garlic.
Everyone needs to limit their whereabouts and stay as close to home as possible. Have all food and groceries delivered, when possible. Do continue to move every day, but exercise in the comfort of your own home (there are tons of online exercise videos available, including Yoga with Adrien and other senior-friendly exercises, like Silver Sneakers!).
We are wishing you health, safety, and happiness during this stressful time. If you have any questions for our True Blue team, don’t hesitate to reach out. Be sure to follow us on Facebook for updates. Stay safe!
