True Blue Resident Spotlights!September 09, 2019
Here at Blue Harbor Senior Living, we have incredible senior living communities all across the country. We absolutely love the homelike feel of each of our communities. Getting to know our residents is a priority. This month, let’s take a moment to get to know a few of our True Blue residents!
Karen of Golden Living!
Our lovely Golden Living Senior Living resident, Karen, is so kind! She had always wanted to take a cruise, but never got the chance. Recently, the True Blue team helped Karen enjoy her very first cruise on Utah Lake. She watched the sunset while having a nice dinner. She even got to steer the boat out of the harbor. The Golden Living team planned this outing for this one-of-a-kind resident.
A Dream Couple!
Meet Sheldon Park residents, Bill and Maxine! Bill was born in 1935 In Los Angeles, CA. After high school, he spent 36 years in the United States Army. Bill loves scenic drives, cards and dominoes, trivia, photography, fishing, and especially dogs!
Maxine, Bill’s wife, was born in in 1939 in Glendale, California. She especially enjoys gardening, easy listening music, reading biographies, playing cards and dominoes, traveling, scenic drives, and animals—especially dogs and horses!
Bill and Maxine were married in 1963 and they raised two beautiful children, a daughter and a son. They lived for many years in Blue River, OR, and recently moved to Eugene, OR.
Bill and Maxine are longtime members of the LDS (Mormon) faith, and remain very active in that community. When you see either of them at Sheldon Park, be sure to say hello, and perhaps share a cup of hot chocolate. We love having Bill and Maxine as a part of the True Blue Sheldon Park family.
Don Kirk of The Gardens
One of our amazing Gardens residents, Don Kirk, has recently been honored for his incredible military service. Recently, Don was honored at the WWII Museum in New Orleans, LA during their D-Day Celebration. He was also able to throw the first pitch at the Biloxi Shuckers’ Baseball Game. He is a brave and special man who deserves all the accolades, and we are honored to have Don as a part of the True Blue family at The Gardens!
Ettie Walsh of Barkley Place
Meet the residents: Barkley Place resident Ettie Walsh! Ettie has led a beautifully varied life. She grew up on a family-owned farm where picking cotton and growing their own vegetables was a way of life. "During the depression, we were poor, but we didn't know it," she says. "We always had food on the table." After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, Ettie attended and graduated from college. But it was wartime. Ettie soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE and was assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C. It was there that she met her husband who was in the Army. At 97 years old, Ettie is hard to keep up with. She's in charge of our monthly Veterans Group and our weekly "Getting to Know You" program. Barkley Place wouldn't be the same without Ettie, and we're thrilled she's a part of the True Blue family!
